Aqib Ilyas has been selected as Zeeshan Maqsood's replacement as Oman's captain for the 10-team tournament's forthcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
Legspinner Samay Shrivastav and all-arounder Rafiullah are the only two uncapped members of the team. In addition, it has three wicketkeepers: Naseem Khushi, Suraj Kumar, and Adeel Shafique, with one of them likely to be eliminated from the final 15.
The rest of the team is quite recognizable because to the bowling assault, which is headed by Kaleemullah and Bilal Khan. Oman has relied on experience due to the squad's average age of 32.
At the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, Oman is grouped with Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, and UAE. The top two teams from the three-week competition will go to India for the main event later in the year.
The playoff will include the lowest two clubs from each group.
Oman will participate in five exhibition matches in Durban as part of a training camp before the event, which starts on June 18, with the hopes of making history by being the first nation to qualify for the Cricket World Cup. They performed well in Division 2 of the ICC World Cricket League, coming in second place among seven teams with 21 victories in 36 games played over the course of four years.
“We are up for the challenge, and this is a great chance for us to demonstrate what we are capable of. With the exception of the West Indies and Zimbabwe, we have played against every team. The captain, Maqsood, stated, “We have to play to our best, and maybe we can get the results we want.
