To expand on his great performance in the IPL 2023, Tilak Varma has been instructed by Indian batting ace Virender Sehwag to focus on his areas of weakness and fitness.
This season, the young Mumbai Indians player made a big impression, scoring 343 runs at a respectable average of 42.88 in 11 games. He missed a few games, but in the second qualifier he produced an outstanding 43 runs off 14 balls to help Mumbai Indians rebuild their chase after taking some early hits.
Varma made an impression in his rookie season by collecting 397 runs in 14 matches after being acquired by MI at Rs 1.7 million before to the IPL 2022. Tilak’s batting has received frequent praise from captain Rohit Sharma, who has also previously predicted that the southpaw would play for India shortly.
Tilak has been instructed by Sehwag to maintain his emphasis on his health and abilities after the IPL 2023.
He should concentrate on two things: enhancing his physical health and figuring out the talents and mentality he can work on. When you play regular cricket, it often occurs that you alter over time. However, you need to concentrate on your abilities and fitness while you’re not playing cricket. He prepared a lot for his shots, same like Suryakumar Yadav,” Sehwag said.
Sehwag thought back to the period when he made his debut and was kicked off the team by Shoaib Akhtar. After that, Sourav Ganguly, the then-Indian captain, offered him wise counsel.
He also told Varma to focus on his deficiencies in order to succeed in the IPL 2024.
“Tilak Varma should work on strengthening his areas of weakness. I’m reminded of how Shoaib Akhtar kicked me from the team in 1999 when I played for India for the first time. The ball struck my pad before I could lower my bat. Dada (Ganguly) instructed me to train against quick bowling so that I might arrive more prepared. I used to bat in the middle of the order, had some spin, and had already reached a century before the fast bowlers arrived. Similar to this, Tilak Varma must consider his areas of weakness, Sehwag added.
