After the altercation with Usman Khawaja, MCC members may get lifetime bans

The three MCC members who were suspended will appear before a King’s Council next week as part of the disciplinary actions brought about by claims of abusive behavior against Usman Khawaja and other Australian players during the Lord’s Test.

Australian players were booed frequently at the stadium after England’s Jonny Bairstow’s stumping on the last day of the second test, and a few MCC members were accused of verbally harassing the players as they passed through the Long Room.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-73909″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-after-the-altercation-with-usman-khawaja-mcc-members-may-get-lifetime-bans-download-2023-07-13t181513.133.jpg” alt=”” width=”1295″ height=”725″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-after-the-altercation-with-usman-khawaja-mcc-members-may-get-lifetime-bans-download-2023-07-13t181513.133.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-after-the-altercation-with-usman-khawaja-mcc-members-may-get-lifetime-bans-download-2023-07-13t181513.133-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1295px) 100vw, 1295px” />

The participants can be permanently banned.

Videos of the event show Khawaja stopping in the middle and speaking with a member or members before David Warner, another member of Australia’s side, stepped in.

Khawaja was shown in another video introducing MCC staff members to members.

According to a source in the Sydney Morning Herald, the disciplinary tribunal would consider a thorough report provided by the security manager for the Australian team and eyewitnesses who provided their testimony through an online form.

“Identify them, and expel them. There are many members who would never do that, and many more are standing by to fill their positions if they won’t value them, the member was reported as saying in the magazine.

It is expressly stated in the regulations that you cannot do it. Don’t belittle the players, and in particular, don’t single out the Aussie team member who looks to be the friendliest and has never caused a stir.

A year-long suspension to a lifetime ban are possible outcomes of “abusive, offensive or inappropriate behavior or language,” “intoxicated and/or anti-social behavior or language,” “unwanted contact,” and “threatening behavior,” according to MCC standards for its members.

According to Khawaja, he answered since some of the comments expressed were “really disappointing.”

After the game, Khawaja had remarked, “Some of the stuff that was coming out of the members’ mouths was really disappointing, and I wasn’t just going to stand by and cop it.”

“So I just spoke to a couple of them. A few of them were making some pretty serious accusations, and I just called them out on it. I was only calling their attention when I said, “Well, it’s your membership here,” and if they persisted. To be honest however, it’s very insulting. I really hope the members can do a lot better, he said.
