Flamengo in Brazil fires Sampaoli’s assistant after he punched Pedro

Pablo Fernández, an assistant coach at Flamengo in Brazil, was sacked on Sunday after punching striker Pedro in the face. Due to the event that happened the day before in the locker rooms during a league game, the player had filed accusations against him.

Following a meeting with club administrators, the 52-year-old Fernández was sacked, according to many Brazilian media agencies. They also said that coach Jorge Sampaoli may possibly lose his job as a result of the assault committed by his assistant. Flamengo will play the opening leg of their round-of-sixteen Copa Libertadores match against Olimpia of Paraguay later this week.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-104415″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-ghoomer-saiyami-dons-a-cricketers-jersey-in-first-look-as-abhishek-bachchan-displays-intense-coaching-download-2023-07-31t172305.925.jpg” alt=”” width=”1083″ height=”811″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-ghoomer-saiyami-dons-a-cricketers-jersey-in-first-look-as-abhishek-bachchan-displays-intense-coaching-download-2023-07-31t172305.925.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-ghoomer-saiyami-dons-a-cricketers-jersey-in-first-look-as-abhishek-bachchan-displays-intense-coaching-download-2023-07-31t172305.925-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1083px) 100vw, 1083px” />

After Flamengo’s 2-1 Brazilian championship victory against Atletico Mineiro, striker Pedro, who was a member of Brazil’s team at the most recent World Cup, claimed Fernández had struck him in the mouth on social media. The assistant coach smacked him three times before punching him, according to a statement from Minas Gerais police.

In addition to stating that he had issues with Sampaoli’s aides, Pedro revealed on Twitter that he had filed complaints against Fernández. In April, the Argentinean coach assumed control of the reigning Copa Libertadores winners.

The psychological cowardice I had to deal with in recent weeks came before the actual cowardice, Pedro stated. May God pardon everyone who thinks that physical violence can solve all problems in 2023.

In a statement released earlier on Sunday, Fernández expressed regret for punching Pedro and said he was “very upset” and “willing to resolve the situation” with the forward as quickly as possible.

Fernández spoke to “high-stress situations that cause us to react and think poorly.” I don’t want to use this background as a justification, but rather as an explanation.

Following a scuffle at an Olympique Marseille vs. Nice game in August 2021, Fernández was given a one-match suspension by Ligue 1 in France. He had assaulted a spectator.

The best way to resolve the situation, according to his supervisor Sampaoli, is to have a dialogue. Since 2019, the Argentinean coach has coached Fernández.
