<p>Williamson will continue to train with the Black Caps, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said, with the goal of being ready for the second half of pool play next month. In order to cover for Williamson while he recovers from his injury, the team has called up Tom Blundell, who will go to India but won’t be considered a member of the squad.</p>
<p>The squad is hoping for a quick recovery for the New Zealand captain, according to coach Gary Stead, who expressed regret at Williamson’s injury.</p>
<p>First of all, everyone felt bad for Kane because of what happened despite his efforts to recover from his knee injury, Stead said.</p>
<p>“Although the news is discouraging, the preliminary diagnosis has given us some hope that he may still be able to participate after some rest and recovery in the pool play. We will try to give Kane every chance we can to return in the tournament because he is obviously a huge component of our team and a world-class player and captain, he said.</p>
<p>While Henry Nicholls wasn’t taken into consideration because of a minor side strain sustained during Canterbury’s Plunket Shield warm-up game against Otago earlier in the week, Stead said Blundell’s flexibility led to his selection to the team as backup.He said that Tom had “performed well” when traveling with the one-day team to Pakistan and Bangladesh.</p>
<p>“He covers multiple positions in the batting order and his wicket-keeping skills are also an added bonus as a back-up,” the author said.</p>
<p>At the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, New Zealand will now play Afghanistan on Wednesday.</p>
