Sitharaman requests changes to IMF policy in response to concerns about the global economic slump

<p>She emphasized the growing risks associated with global debt, the significance of the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable in fostering collaboration on debt concerns, and changes to IMF policy that would better support members who were experiencing financial hardship.</p>
<p>She made this statement while in Marrakech, Morocco, for the IMF Board of Governors’ Restricted Breakfast Meeting with the subject “Dialogue on Policy Challenges.”</p>
<p>She reaffirmed her commitment to a robust, quota-based IMF at the center of the global financial safety net as well as to climate action based on the principles of shared but distinct duties and distinctive capacities.</p>
<p>In the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – One Earth, One Family, One Future, Sitharaman emphasized that a coordinated response from the international community would encourage multilateralism.</p>
